Sheppard pulls on the significance of connecting the environment with individual and collective concerns. Making sculpture and painting from terrestrial and mythological viewpoints, using a dreamlike logic. Engaging with surrealist methods to make connections between the familiar and the unknown. Using layered processes and the consciousness of sourcing materials such as linen, clay and metal.Overlaps and loose associations generated by the materials and processes lead to an extensity that can be read as a collection of ecological interests. Mysterious conflations arise, evoking history and ancient technologies, contemporary and ancient ecologies.

The work hovers on the edge of representation and transitions between form and gesture, as if in the action of transformation. Jo has participated in group shows in the UK.
